bathtime

these are mainly for the grandparents
or anyone else who cares.

makai took his first "bath" in the big bath.
emi had taken a bath in her then purple water.
when i let the water drain to make it not so deep
it didn't stay purple. that is why it isn't clear
if you were wondering :)

he wasn't so sure and kept his arms out most of the time.
we were all standing their staring at him
so i'm sure that was a little weird for him.

he seemed to enjoy it though and was kicking his legs wildly.

he would get the water splashing so much it created little waves
so he'd freak a little but still enjoyed it.

after looking at these pictures
i wonder if the water even with his ears bugged him
i hate water in my ears.

um, he does have a neck.

so weird to look at his body.
for how big he is and how fast he seems to grow
he doesn't look chunky like his weight would show.
i would love to compare him side by side to another baby his age
just so i could see if he is as huge as i feel he is.

christmas 2012

eddie and i were so excited for christmas this year
emi knew what was going on
and at times was brutally honest...
saying things like: i didn't want this! ha!
overall we had a fun relaxing day.

the morning started late.
family has been in town so emi hasn't been to bed before 10pm
usually she just wakes up at her regular time 6:30ish
well we told my parents to head over around 7:30
since that is emi's usual sleep in time
well 7:30, 7:45, 8, 8:15 roll by
finally at 8:30 mr. makai woke up, so we had him wake her up
eddie went in with makai and woke her up
a few minutes go by and i realize she is still in bed
so i go in there to get her up and excited....
except she is crying!!
sleeping in late, crying on christmas morning?!? not what i anticipated.
she finally let me know she was so sad because
she forgot to leave cookies and carrots out so santa didn't come.
i let her know we remembered and santa had indeed been to our house.
she jumped out of bed so quick and the tears were gone. phew!
i have yet to download picture from my phone
but the picture i got she just stood there, expressionless
i said what? to try to provoke some sort of emotion.
she was like: he didn't eat them all! i explained he was full.
that was the best answer i could come up with.

the first thing she noticed...
was not her santa present but her dvd of doc mcstuffins

she was telling me all about t he episode pictures on the back
she does have that whole dvd memorized.
i ordered it before our utah trip
when it came in the mail i remembered it came with a digital copy
i had eddie copy it onto her phone
i figured she wouldn't notice or know the difference.

ahh! her santa gift.
for a long time, like really long
she has wanted a dog pillow pet night light, is what she calls it.
well about 3 weeks before christmas she keep telling everyone she wanted a bug one.
and i would pipe in asking about the dog.
we (as in eddie and i) decided she will be happy with whatever santa brings
obviously santa delivered the bug and not the dog

she was so excited to get candy.
she calls anything that resembled an m&m...emi m's
i hope i always remember that.
just like i use to call tic tacs: mittens.

so excited to get new hair things.

not so excited to get underwear!
except for she has flashed everyone she knows
to show her new minnie and daisy undies.

in years past eddie and i would go stocking shopping
like a day or two before christmas
this year we got smart and went one date night in early december.

so, so excited about her bath fizzies.
she has been begging me for those for gma's bath for some time
glad santa pulled through and put them in her stocking.

just as emi was finishing going through her stocking
everyone else showed up to watch us open presents.
emi was finally excited to show gma her new night light

emi was so happy
even though you can't tell by her face.
she was saying awe! now i have a big sister
she has been using her cinderella figurine as the big sister (like herself)
in her doll house, since the house came with parents and a baby.

jessica was so kind to take me to the BYU bookstore when i was visiting.
i thought this would be fun for eddie to have in his office.

i found a steal of a deal online for the leap pad
we were going to wait for her birthday
(which is in less than 3 months, ekk! she's almost 4.)
she didn't know what it was and didn't really care
now a few days later, it's her new favorite thing.
and i guess when your 3, all tablets are ipads
she calls it her ipad, eddie corrected her
now she calls it her frog pad, ha!

she was also super excited to get the bedroom sets for her do house
from momo and poppy. thank you!

after overnight french toast we headed back to my parents.
where buddy tanner the elf showed up.

i was holding makai (who was sleeping) so eddie was in charge of pictures.

we all got lots of nice things but emi's favorite was the doc mcstuffin dr bag.
since emi has become obsessed with doc mcstuffin
i thought she would be interested to see the ad for the bag in one of the ads
in a past sunday paper.
she then but it out, wrapped it and sent it home with ruby.
well i explained santa was out, after i went all over town looking for it
everywhere was sold out of the dr bag.
the bright side, was i found the bug night light
in a go back cart at toys r us once night close to midnight
that place is a mad house days before christmas.
i waited in line 40 minutes to by my one thing, it was ridiculous.

we had a wonderful christmas and were spoiled rotten as always.
we are so grateful for such generosity shown by our family members.

4 months

seriously. how could it be that he is 4 months already.
it truly does fly by even faster with your second baby.

makai had just woken up from a nap and had just eaten
yet he played hard ball and wouldn't crack a smile.
just wanted to stare at my camera strap... which is black, white and red

makai doesn't have his 4 month appt until the 8th...
i will update with his stats then i guess.
*update* 16 pounds 13 ounces
25 inches tall, 42.5 cm head circumference
the dr we see only works 2 days a week
and of those two days he just works 8 hours.
luckily i have all his appts scheduled out until he is one.
but we are behind a week and some day because
we had to wait to get into see the dr. when makai was a few weeks old.
phew! i'm glad i just explained that cause i'm sure everyone was wondering why :)

makai is trying so hard to be a big boy and sit up
he loves to stand, tolerates tummy time
but would much rather sit if he could.
he still needs to be supported somewhat but seems really strong.
does he not look huge in the chair, or is it me?!

same picture basically but without the flash.
he would not smile. just wanted to look at my camera strap.

weird to think he has had 4 hair cuts in his short life.
i feel like i've cut inches off, which i have
each time i was afraid to take too much off
and then a week later, i would look at it and think it was too long
now it is finger length/width...whatever.

not sure if he it teething but loves to chew
he has a teether toy he loves and will cry
in anger when it doesn't stay in his mouth
he loves to jump in the jumperoo!
he is also doing the pre-crawler thing with his legs
emi was a late crawler, she also hated tummy time
it's nice to see makai learning new things, even though he is still so young.

our schedule is pretty much the same everyday
it all depends on his eating, which is about every 4 hours.
he has slept and gone 6 hours during the day.
but it is generally every 4 hours.
i like to feed him as close to 10pm as i can.
if i feed him around 10pm he will sleep until 6am
emi was doing 12 hours by now, but one thing i have learned
is you can't compare cause every child is different.
but i am comparing...get with the program makai...kidding, sort of.
so then we do every 4 hours after that.
sometimes he is awake an hour or two after eating.
but he always communicates that he is sleepy but giving a warning.
he still is being a pain about how he falls asleep if being held
but the swing is back in action and will take up to 4 hour naps in the swing
at night i feed him and then go lay him in bed
he never really cried himself to sleep ever
he just goes to sleep, the only easy about this baby.

we don't plan on starting solids yet, not until he seems more interested.
i did tease him with a banana, just to taste it.
and what did he do?! he bit the tip off.
i had to hurry and scoop it out of his mouth.
i was expecting that.
he has started to follow what we are eating.
but i think so far he is just curious, like what is that?
he was so done with taking pictures.
maybe i can try again and get a picture of his cute smile.

emi asked for a picture with him.
i couldn't say no...she is such a good big sister.

they are both a good mix of us.
but i have to say the have opposite things, if that makes sense.
you know what i mean by things :) ha!
emi has eddie's eyebrows and uni-brow, makai doesn't have a uni-brow
even though emi has the same color hair as me
she has more olive skin, where makai is a pasty white boy. etc, etc...

gingerbread house

i found a pin on pinterest on how to cut graham crackers
to make it a gingerbread house.
and used chocolate melts to glue the sides together.

decisions, decisions...

the finished product but not before she ate all the hershey kisses off.
that girl loves chocolate.

this was before gingerbread house making
he likes to watch her play or do puzzles on the ground.

he really wants to suck his thumb
like he won't really take a binkie and when he does
he either goes right to sleep or spits it right out.
yesterday while in the car i could hear mouth smacking
sure enough, he was going at in on his thumb.
what's funny is he only sucks on the tip, like just the first knuckle.

emi was running around.
he prepares himself...even though he is out of her reach.

ward christmas party

meeting santa during the meet and greet
i wasn't able to get a picture of her and ms. clause
not that she would know who that is anyways.

dad made the perfect santa.
maybe when he is old and grey he can grow a real beard.
he was sweating so bad.
i asked if he wanted some water and we laughed about
how he would have to lift his beard
and since he had just "arrived" and all the kids were watching
that wouldn't be such a good idea.

since emi was sick
we told her to stick with one of us
try not to mingle with the other kids
so she was one of the first kids to see santa
i was surprised she wasn't scared at all
more nervous, but she is a nervous nellie anyways.

he asked if she was a nice sister
and if she talked nicely to mom
that he was watching her and she needs to talk nicer
and be my big helper.
(since she always tells me she is busy or has her hands full)

i wonder if she had any clue that was gpa.
i did have a couple people in our ward ask what company we hired him through
i then explained it was my dad...people were shocked.
he made the perfect santa.

we also had ms. clause.
she was reading christmas stories to the kids
and handing out emi's favorite...chocolate.

makai was the perfect child.
smiling and not fussing at all, even though by the time the party ended
it was an hour and a half over his "schedule" eating

eddie carried him in the ergo baby for most of it.
a big thank you to eddie for watching the kids
while i ran the show, like a chicken with my head cut off.
luckily i had explained in great detail to a variety of people how it all would go down
since i was the photographer for santa
i got stuck taking pictures the entire first hour and half.
and a big thank you to gma for stepping in to help eddie.

makai didn't even seem to notice who was holding him
i am excited to compare next years picture.
i'm sure he will be screaming and crying.

i think this is cute and funny all in one
cute that santa is kissing his forehead
but funny, he is like...get this hair outta my face.

love my santa's little helper.

emi was not thrilled to have more pictures taken.

thank you gpa! you did a great job.
