birthday fun

this post has 36 pictures and a video about half way through.

i went back and forth on having a friend and family party.

in the end we decided to just do a tiny family party

which included just my parents and brother.

i wanted to go all out, make a pinterest party...but i realized

i would be doing that more for me, than him.

makai won't remember this. but we sure had fun, even though i didn't "go all out".

it was nice not to have to worry about food allergies this time around.

we had homemade mac'n'cheese...with bacon.

the birthday boy.

gma with makai, he would not look my direction for anything.

the guest list. this seriously is a treasure.

emi had such a rough day with everything being about makai.

i tried to include her in certain things but it all backfired.

as she wanted all pink/purple/girly stuff.

she did pick out his "smash" cake...

 after me letting her know for the 10th time that 

the princess, barbie, hello kitty, etc wasn't an option.

we pre-sung the birthday song.

rocking back and forth with excitement.... looking/acting "special".

 

opening presents. he walked away a couple times.

luckily emi was there to help him.

i know everyone thinks their kid is the cutest kid ever. 

but i seriously have everyone beat. he is seriously the cutest.

he thought this was hilarious.

and when eddie was done pushing him, he just sat there waiting.

waiting to be pushed again.

gma was so smart and got a little something for the jealous sissy.

she loved it!! smart thinking gma.

gpa being a unicorn...or gru from despicable me (his shadow).

my parents helped pay for a little slide and sand box.

which i still need to get a picture of in the day light.

well, much to my surprise my mom surprised us with a cozy truck

i wanted to get one for him, but it didn't fit in the budget.

i was so happy!! he won't have to wait until christmas.

and good thing, cause santa would have been stuck

 at our place most of the night putting it together .

getting ready for cake time.

smash cake. no i didn't make it, ashley.

but i do want to take a cake decorating class.

it was between this and a cars cake, which had black frosting.

i may or may not have suggested woody over lighting mcqueen.

not sure if he is looking at the fire or woody.

i think the candle since he tried to grab it shortly after this.

where are you going with that dad? you gonna smash it in my face?

oh my goodness! and emi got all into the birthday song.

her facial expressions were hilarious. wish i would of could have recorded it.

you can kind of get a glimpse in this picture.

hmmm....not so bad but still not sure.

 

so messy!! i'm sure eddie was having a conniption.

eddie has mr. wilson syndrome. something i think i need to post about at a later date.

i didn't get a picture of the ice cream cake.

it was blue, cookies and cream....delicious!!

emi didn't want any, so we let her have a slice of his.

it was probably because it was 'his' cake and she just wanted some

cause she doesn't even like cake, the reason we get ice cream cakes.

"eating" his cake. i haven't posted a video on here in forever, hope it works.

oh my goodness....so messy!!

see...cutest child ever. even covered in frosting.

such a slippery mess but so much fun.

 straight to the bath. which ended up turning blue.

i'm glad i washed him right away cause it dyed his skin a little.

good thing it was time to clean the bath anyways.

hour later.....eddie still working on it and sweating up a storm.

my mom and i got a kick out of eddie putting it together.

he did a great job, just took forever.

it's so cool cause it has flooring for when they aren't old enough to peddle.

now i can frame this and give it to him in 15 years. his first car.

thank you gma and gpa's/ momo and poppy's for the presents.

he also got some clothes, toms and bath toys.

tweleve months

a year really is a short span of time.

yet it shocks me that the last year has flown by.

makai doesn't have his well check up for another month

but i weighed him on my parents scale yesterday...

not sure how accurate it actually is 

but he weighed a whopping 23.2 pounds.

and measures 30 inches tall.

we'll see what the dr. office has to stay.

i tried taking some pictures of makai last night.

we were at the tail end of the sweet spot of lighting

and by the time we reached our second destination, it was dark. boo!

makai cared more about the rocks than actually looking my direction

but would look at eddie if he jiggled the keys.

makai learned a lot in the last month

he started walking, clapping, nodding his head yes at correct time

he also grew a molar, with his second one about to come through.

i would say he has 9 1/2 teeth since i can feel the second molar.

makai loves to eat. he doesn't like egg and tolerates avocado

but eats anything else he is served.

he loves bananas and grapes. he will pound a banana.

he will take one or two bites of it, then shove it in his mouth

i use to give him a half of one, but now he just gets one in 3rds

he will beg for whatever food i am eating, even if his tray is full.

makai loves to play on his own. which i love.

i will go about my domestic duties and he will do his own thing.

there are many time emi is watching her shows in our room

will run out to say hi, and wonder where he is...since he isn't with me

he is usually in his room playing nicely.

he does however love to get into the cupboards.

something emi did but gave up quickly.

trying to figure out if it would be worth it to put the magnetic locks on them.

makai is still not the best sleeper.

my mom asks me all the time if i am exhausted. i must look it.

i am use to his stinky sleeping schedule.

he gets fussy around 7pm, so i usually nurse him around 7:30

after dinner, a bath, getting dressed and brushing teeth.

he can hardly contain himself when he hears the bath water.

on a goodnight he will sleep from 8-6...like a really good night.

but usually he goes to sleep by 8. wakes once or twice. like around 2....or 10 and 2

then he always wakes up between 4-6am and refuses to go back to sleep

so i nurse him back to sleep...not sure what we are going to do when he stops nursing

then he goes back to sleep until 7:30-8.

nap time is a whole different story.

sometimes he goes right to sleep, sometimes he jumps in his bed for an hour or two.

he could be fussy, rubbing his eyes, and rolling around with his blanket

yet sometimes he refuses to settle down.

other times, he goes to sleep within 30 seconds. drives me batty.

basically he still sucks at soothing himself to sleep.

he loves other kids so much.

i've noticed he gravitates towards older kids.

he is afraid of people with gray/shorter hair with glasses.

not like gma style short, but anything above the shoulder. it's weird.

other than that he is very social.

he laughs so easily, and smiles at anyone.

when he gets excited he rocks back and forth.

makes himself look "special" when he does it in public.

he loves to wear shoes.

and necklaces. he likes to bang things to make noises.

he loves to sing, and talk softly. usually laughing afterwards.

he loves his sissy!!

that was one thing i had to get use to.

if i didn't nurse him, i'm pretty sure he would love her more.

he looks past me all the time to look for her.

he breaths heavily with wide eyes with excitement for her.

wears size 12 clothes, almost 18 months.
he has moves, anytime music comes on he rocks out.
he pats your shoulder when you hold him.
loves to get into screaming matches with his sissy.
makai has been such a blessing in our lives.

crazy how different he was from emi.

we have enjoyed him so much. 

and can't wait to see how much he grows this next year.

weekly update

this past week has been a busy one

nothing too important but felt busy for some reason.

one morning we were early to school so emi showed us around their playground.

emi always seems to have some weird look on her face

when i am wanting to take a picture of the both of them.

this boy! oh how i wish this wasn't blurry.

but it seems most pictures of him on my cell phone seem to be blurry

i need to pick up my camera a lot more.

i say that all the time but i never do.

this is his new smile lately.

makai loves broccoli and chicken

i didn't get a picture of emi having a melt down

but she was rather sassy and i threatened her with 

not getting to eat broccoli for dinner. she cried and cried.

then when dinner was served, she bartered with me

saying she would eat 5 pieces of chicken for another serving of broccoli.

silly kids!! glad they like to eat healthy.

 

makai is fulling walking this week,

i posted a little video of him walking on instagram

since then he hasn't crawled one bit.

he accelerated really fast from zombie to walking normal.

he is even trying to run, which results in him falling usually.

makai loves this baton emi got

and her necklaces.

i finally found my fabric measuring tape

and first thing he does when i let him play with it

was put it around his neck.

boy needs more boy things, cause he loves girly things.

which is ok...but he also loves cars and trucks.

we finally made it to the park by our house.

emi had a blast even though there are no swings.

she rode her trike all the way there and was pooped by the time we got home.

we need to get that girl a bike.

eddie always says: christmas is coming!!

seems like forever away but really, it's not.

emi switches her mind daily on what she wants to be

one day she wants to be a minion with makai

the next she wants to be a disney princess

we came across this dress and she thinks it looks like amber's

sofia the first, step sister amber...

everyday she asks if she can put it on for just a few minutes.

drives me crazy. she draws with chalk then rubs it.

i locked her out until i could clean her up.

not sure why she was in her underwear...

we forgot a stroller when we went to the mall

so we put the carrier to good use.

he thought it was hilarious at first but then would fuss if eddie stopped.

later that night our ward had a car show/bbq.....snooze fest!!

our ward is more of the nearly dead and people in their 60's.

most families are about 15 years ahead of us.

and i can probably count on one hand how many young families there are

guess that is what we get for moving into an established neighborhood.

emi was being a brat and didn't want her picture taken. stinker!!

we love going to my parents for sunday dinner.

the kids get to spend time with their grandparents

eddie gets to watch sports center and i get a little break.

not to mention a yummy dinner and gpa honey popcorn.

this beanie is a newborn beanie that goes to a girl baby outfit.

makai loves to wear it. it laughs and laughs when i first put it on.

i had to hold him down to take a picture.

ok, so we were at costco and emi insisted on trying on the wig

just another costume she wants to be...

ahhh! homework. emi got her first homework 

and it was a nightmare!! so horrible.

she got frustrated easily, if it wasn't perfect she stomped, refused my help...etc

being left handed is hard. i kind of feel sorry for her.

her hand smears everything and messes it up...i foresee more meltdowns. joy!

i make fat beats!!

when eddie and i were first married we lived in the basement of a small house

the owners moved out and rented out the top floor of the house.

we had a slew of fellow renters (drug dealers, physical abuser, and the single dad)

the single dad was super ghetto and one of the first things he said to us

was he: he made fat beats!! like he made mix tapes.

so every time i see someone wear these big headphones

i think of that guy saying that.

eddie and i laughed and laughed about it in our pillows that night.

the most happy baby i know. he has such a cute personality.

laughs at anything and everything.

another one...looks like he was chewing on the ear phone portion.

he wasn't yelling. this is the last phase of his silly smile.
