weekly update

here is a short video of him 'smiling'
it seriously is so hilarious.

i thought this was cute.
makai kept reaching out for emi during our walk to the park.
if you don't know emi too well, she likes to initiate contact
she hates to be rubbed, or have her hair played with.
so as i watch makai repeatedly reach for her,
i had to say: earth to emi! he is trying to hold your hand.

the park closest to our house doesn't have a swing set
but we also live near a huge city park
it has a play ground but it attached to a building.
as we approached the park with the swings, there were kids our playing.
there are a few schools that are year round.
and they use the building as kind of a city daycare for kids off track.
there were a bunch of older kids, like over 8
and emi didn't want to play with them. so we walked around the park.
by the time we walked around the kids were still out playing.
i explained it was now or never...so she decided to go play.

this boy! if you could only see that blanket in person.
disgusting!! it needs to be washed so bad.
but when i take it from him or he sees me with it.
he sort of freaks out. i'm thinking i need to make him a duplicate.

saturday after fog willow we headed to tanner's football game.
it was a really good, close game.
makai enjoyed playing with gpa's sunglasses.
dancing to the band music and eating kettle corn.

it was nice gma and gpa were there to help hold the wiggly baby.
at one point he thought something gma was doing was hilarious.
i think he was pulling her hair and he was laughing.

after the game we headed to my parents ward trunk or treat.
she finally wore her minon costume.
her head looked huge cause she had pig-tails in.
we had a long but fun day, fog will, tanner's game then trunk or treat.

we got to the trunk or treat late, it was actually just ending
and everyone was getting ready for the trunk or treat portion.
which was nice, cause emi was able to do all the kid stuff
virtually by herself. she loved the bounce house the best.

fast asleep. gpa bought her a drink at the football game.
what he doesn't know is the large mouth bottles give her a hickey.
so she sported a purple hickey all of sunday.
you can kind of see it in this picture.

this seriously happened.
emi has been waking up makai from closing her door in the morning.
so i charged her cell phones, with shows and movies.
well when she went in to change into her pajamas,
she noticed they were charged and came out watching some movie.
well she refused to put it down while brushing her teeth.
i was laughing so hard. she couldn't even hear us as her to put it down.
nor did she hear us laughing at her.

wearing her 'boy' pajamas i for for $3.
i actually bought them for makai, but in a size 5
well, emi insisted she needed them.
i laugh a little cause she is either really girly girly, or a little tom boyish.

this little stinker cracks me up.
i was using my flashlight for something and he 'smiled'
so then i took a real picture of him.
he loves to stand and sit on the couch now that he can crawl up.

he wants to be on the couch as much as possible.
he loves to stand on that arm rest,
i just say his name and shake my head no and he will get down.
he too loves to watch ellen like emi does.

14 months

well i never did my 13 month update, so i will just combine them

let's start with his hair...
i have cut it multiple times, but it has gotten to the point that
when he wakes up from a nap or for the day.
he had wild bed head in the back.
i assumed it was because his hair was long, so i cut it.
two days later he had crazy bed head again.
so he must be a crazy sleeper or something.
giving him a haircut is the worst. i usually cut it in the bathtub.
so i can just rinse down the hair, then i 'fix' it after he gets out.
i started giving him a sucker cause he pulls away...
right when i am about to make a cut.

he has the most hilarious smile.
anytime he sees a phone or camera, he does this.
it starts out with the big picture. peaks at the top right picture.
then eventually gets smaller.
i love it. i have a small snipped on video i'll add to my weekly update.

he has 14 teeth!! the 'original' 4 on top, 4 on bottom.
all four molars and just recently sprouted some fangs.
his top left fang and his bottom right fang.
i wish i could blame his horrible sleeping on teething
but i didn't really think that is it.
for a majority of his molars i would spot it once it was through.
never a hint of teething, which is great.
people are shocked he is running all over the place.
he loves to climb whatever he can.
he is hilarious and puts any kind of basket on his head, and comes laughing.

today he is getting the cut off from nursing.
i made it to 14 months, which is great.
i nursed emi until she was 18 months but she had some food allergies.
he has been only nursing at night before bed and in the early morning.
in the last 2 weeks his night feedings are a joke.
he makes it just a few minutes on one side
before he either falls asleep or pushes me away.
i hadn't weaned him yet because of the early morning feedings.
he could and would nurse for 15 minutes on each side if i let him.
this morning was our first go around with no morning nursing.
he had a good night and slept until close to 6am.
i went in and laid him back down, he cried a bit on and off.
(crying, listening for me, crying, listening....giving up, crying, listening)
so we will need to work that kink out.
so we all got up by 6:30am this morning.
luckily he goes to bed by 7pm.
he takes one to two naps a day, either 2 short naps or one long one.
on a bad night, he wakes at 1:45, 3:30, and 5:45.
a good night is he wakes once at 4:08 or 5:45.

makai is very smart. he doesn't know any body parts yet, nor talks
but he understands everything we say.
he shakes his head yes and screams high pitch screams.
if he is sleepy he use to roll around, now he comes to me
i ask him if he is sleepy and ready to go nigh-nigh....he will shake his head yes
then i go lay him down and he goes right to sleep.
if he is hungry, he comes fussing with his hands in his mouth
and reminds me of a dog, he will request for me to follow him to the pantry.
if emi has something he wants, if he is excited, or can't figure something out...
he will scream this high pitch scream.
when he is poopy he will come to me making a 's' sound, i then ask him if he is stinky
that's what we call a poopy diaper, a stinky.
he also loves to talk on the phone and will ramble on and on.

he is also the most loving and caring boy.
he loves to snuggle and give hugs and kisses.
he loves to wrestle, wear necklaces and crowns.
he likes to stand on the little leather chair with a puffed/proud chest.
he gets so excited to go outside.
is doing better when i leave, or when anyone leaves the house.
he doesn't necessarily have stranger danger, but he gets shy.
he has turned into a picky eater but loves hot dogs, spaghetti, crasians, pretzels
cesear salad, chicken nuggets, yogurt, cottage cheese and spinach.
he hates milk, green beans and peas.
if he doesn't want to eat something, he just throws it on the ground.
he wears size 18 months in most things.
his feet are size 4.
he still sleeps with his blanket every night and nap time.
loves the binkie and can't go to sleep without it.
i love that he claps anytime someone on tv claps or at tanner's football games.
he immediately starts dancing to any tune he hears.
he loves to be naked, loves to stand during his bath.
cries if we take a shower without him.
and adores his daddy so much!!
people always ask if they are cousins, like i am babysitting one of them.
because they are "night and day"....have dark and light.
this boy lights up my life.
i may get a heart attack every time he stands on the arm rest of the couch.
but i am accepting his crazy 'boy' antics that i feared so much.

fog willow 2013

even though emi and i went with her school
on a field trip to fog willow.
we wanted to head there as a family, as we plan to do annually.
emi wasn't interested in taking pictures, as she was excited to play.
when we went for the field trip we just did the farm stuff
then needed to go because gma was babysitting makai
and was on a timed schedule.
she had a great time showing gma and gpa around.

makai with his first measurement.
last time he was just a few weeks old, couple months.
that was too long ago for my brain to figure out :)
weird to think he is just a foot shorter than her.
amazes me how much a baby grows in the first year.

gpa taking a picture of miss emi
while gma watches makai run all around.

first spot was all the picture things.
emi is a sucker for these things, so we all had a turn.

then gma and gpa joined in. emi loved it.

so funny!

we came right when it opened, to avoid the pony ride line.
we were so early they weren't even ready yet.
so we ventured over to the farm where emi gave us a little tour.
makai had such a fun time and screamed at all the animals.

emi wanted to show gma the llamas, so they ran over there real quick.

emi showing gpa the ponies.

watching the llamas eat.
they kept sticking their heads all the way into their troft.
the farmhand worker said they had just started that the day prior
and wasn't sure why they were doing it but it sure was fun to watch.
they would go deep enough to have their head disappear.
then would come up and be covered in hay.

i think i might need to get a zoo membership
because makai enjoyed the animals so much!
emi was his same age when we would go to the zoo in louisville.

emi showed us the baby bunny.
and gpa let makai get up close and personal with another one.
he wasn't afraid at all.

emi was so funny and would pick makai up if he was walking the wrong way.

he loved running free. i was actually shocked he didn't try to eat dirt or leaves.

emi taught gpa how to act around bees.

then we hit up the petting zoo area.
i was a little sad, they had the pot belly pig "caged up"
makai kept screaming in excitement.

and emi was as brave as ever.
usually she is a little skittish with goats and feeding animals.
well actually she still was a little...
when we first walked in with some food, she immediately dumped her handful
as the goats came walking towards her.

the pig was pinned up behind my parents.
this goat had no fear and jumped right up.
i guess this is a good example of why emi is a little afraid.

i think this was the only time makai got a little scared.
the goats were looking for food and came running.
he didn't cry, just made a sad face.

i thought this was hilarious.
makai was so interested in their butts.
i'm happy to report he didn't eat any "blueberries".

i love this picture of emi.
this is of her watching makai feed the goats.
such a proud sister.

here was makai feeding the goats.
he loved it. and only sampled the feed once or twice.

oh hello mr. goat.

then it was finally time for the pony ride!
what emi was looking forward to the most.
she got to ride stormy. she was in heaven.

i posted a video on instagram.
should have taken one on my phone. bummer.
she loved it!!

and makai yelled and laughed the whole time she came near.
then would stare and wait for her to come around again.

makai wouldn't look my direction, he had way too many things to look at.

monster makai with his stinker smile face.

this was emi running back to us after her ride.
she sticks her tongue out when she is so excited.

next up was the cow barrel ride.
gpa convinced emi to sit in the way back cause it was most bumpy.

she was hilarious and kept waving and laughing.

sticking her tongue out and laughing. it sure was bumpy.

then we headed over to the hay hill.

makai enjoyed the hay hill as well.
he wasn't sure how to walk in it but eventually figured it out.

watching all the kids run around and jumping off the hay stacks.

emi was brave enough to jump.

playing in the itchy hay.

emi was seriously having the best morning ever!!

makai was more concerned about keeping his shirt clean.
he is his father's son.

emi on the other hand started throwing hay.
wish i would have gotten a picture of the aftermath of this picture.
gma got a mouth and faceful of hay, even down her shirt. poor gma.
i felt so bad....cause hay gets itchy. gma acted like she didn't care.

then we finally made it onto the hayride.
emi and i sat way up front.
makai enjoyed some kettle corn.
i thought this was hilarious cause the couple next to my mom was taking a selfie
their kids were sitting next to emi and i...
i eventually made fun that they were taking a selfie.
something my mom claims she didn't know what selfie is.
when i asked my dad, he didn't even want to know what a selfie was. ha!
they need to know these things with a child in HS.

lastly we went over to the horse thingy.
eddie tried helping emi lasso but we ended up asking gpa
a fellow lefty to help our lefty lasso.
it was hilarious, cause he whipped himself in the face.
and mom your face in hilarious in the bottom right picture.
such a fun time!

then before we left i tried to get some pictures of the kids.
a total fail!
should have done it in the beginning i guess.

he overpowers her all the time.
i can't wait for him to wrestle with her and take her down.

this was the best shot i got. it will do.

shocker! a family picture.
it was nice to have someone to be able to take our picture.
emi looks like she is in pain, pain from taking pictures.
she just wanted to run around...a least makai smiled.
