super long weekend in utah

i left this out of my post about gpa.
but i saw this on pinterest thursday night
little did i know the next morning it would have a different meaning
when i originally saw it, i thought of the family in our ward that lost their son
the year mark of his death is approaching and i thought of making this
well now i will be making it for gma.

makai was such a champ in the car
since just recently he stopped crying the entire time in the car
so i was a littler fearful he would cry the whole drive.

we made it to slc about 12:30am
gma called me about 7am wondering when we would be there.
i love this picture. love. love it.

since i packed in a jiffy, i didn't realize i packed makai's 6 month pants
they were a little short. but worked out just fine.
even if they looked like capri pants :)

poor emi. seriously always gets sick when we go to utah
she wasn't exposed to a cold the week before
so i was a little surprised.
thank goodness her second mommy, jessica had medicine for her.
and saved me from buying medicine.

on the last night in utah we spent the evening in provo
ate at tucanos and walked around.

we went to the provo resort place.
tanner also did the rope course, but i can't seem to find a picture with the 3 of them.

emi enjoyed the carousel wheel
i am totally laughing at this picture.
cause my dad was outside on one side
and then you can see my older brother erik and makai outside
so she had someone to wave to the whole time.

mom looks tiny next to dad.
i think she is up to 115 weight loss
good job mom!!

we finally made it home with smiles on our face
his head may be bald from rubbing it on the back but we made it.

probably cause he sat like this most of the time.

weekly update(s)

this is basically all the pictures that don't fall under a specific happening
so i will just group them together to get caught up
these are from the beginning of the month of march
i won't be commenting on all the pictures but just some of them.

way back when we went to oregon
we brought home my new twin baby, bob :)
instead of investing in a double stroller we took the plunge
i still need to get an infant car seat attachment
if and when we will have another baby, i will get that.

the first time we used it.
makai cried the entire time. the whole 45 minutes i went walking.
not sure if he was scared of facing forward or what.

the jr. primary
shocking, with my 3 callings. i don't have a second hour calling
i usually am tying up loose ends with my callings
and rarely attend sunday school
i was lucky enough to be downstairs as the kids were coming down
emi by far has the best silly face for the sunbeams.

a close up before they scooted over for a group shot.

after a few walks...
makai loves the stroller and usually falls asleep
emi, not so much. she says it's boring
so we have to make sure she has some sort of entertainment
seeing horses, goats and cows along the way just isn't entertaining enough

after we got back from utah
makai fell out of his stroller.
a miscommunication of him being buckled in
luckily this was his only injury.

by the time he had his 6 month check up
it looked like this.
it was a little awkward cause i didn't say anything
so then the dr. said: well you gonna tell me what happen?
i had my lie detector with me....miss emi
luckily i wasn't involved and could blame it on others
and he believed me cause emi was there to verify my story
as she explained to him what happen in her eyes, ha.

emi's gus gus...as she calls him
had his 3rd birthday. emi had so much fun!

they rented this awesome train to drive them around the neighborhood.

i love how emi finishes her ice cream every time.

i hate laundry.
well i hate folding it and putting it away.
good thing i did this mountain or we might of had to go naked.

what it looks like when i walk.
emi watching a movie, while makai naps

not happy to have her picture taken.
in fact, i think she came charging like a bull
for me to stop taking pictures of her.

this was taken a few weeks ago
he wants to crawl so bad
now a days, you can find him rocking back and forth
so it's soon, but not yet.

this is emi's new smile
if i have missed the real smile and she gives me a forced one
i say, a happy smile and this is it.

my poor baby.
his face finally healed
then i cut his forehead with a paper bag
then later this night i scratched the back of his head with my ring.

there are no words.
she was waiting for me and i wasn't moving fast enough, apparently.

emi has been begging for a hula hoop
so when i saw a small one at the $ store, i bought it.
she spent the entire time grocery shopping doing this.
giving lots of older people a smile on their face.

rummaging through my purse already.

makai rode his first swing at a friends house
he kept his eyes closed the entire time
not sure if it was because of the sun, or he didn't want to see.
i'm thinking the sun was shining in his eyes.
i didn't notice cause i was trying not to cry from stubbing my pinkie toe
on a gagged piece of cement. i still have all 5 toes :)
damaged my nail polish luckily.

he is one patient soul!
as crap hits the fan if she misses the opportunity to put his belt on.
what a horrible habit he has started.
he literally puts it on and takes it off every single morning and evening.

watching the boob tube. she loves tv.
and usually is so much in the zone
that she misses eddie letting her know he is ready to put his belt on.

i love this girl.
even though i am hoping she simmers down since she is 4 now.

harold elwood randall

1922-2013
my sweet gpa passed away march 8th.
he went suddenly and quickly
we couldn't have asked for a better situation.

i have been avoiding my blog
but i feel like once i document this i can "move on"
when i was called and told with the news, i needed to be with gma.
and now that i have been home a few weeks
and i know gma is ok...i am finally grieving

he was finally turning into a grumpy old man
one that i still love very much.
he was kind of prepping us all, well gma and i at least
his hearing loss had gotten so bad that we didn't speak much
over the phone, even though i speak to gma everyday on the phone

a few things happened in the days leading up to his death that i want to remember
every month i send about 25 pictures to each of the great grandparents
since they don't have access to a computer.
having a 'difficult' second child has rocked my world
i have never been cluttery or unorganized in my life
and i just can't seem to keep my head above water most days
i use to send them before the end of the month
and they would usually get the pictures by the first
well the last few months it was more like the first or second week
of the month they would get the pictures.
so at the end of february i had a butt load of pictures still on my camera
that i needed to edit, save, save to costco, order, mail...etc...
well i felt prompted to just send what i had flagged
and who cared about editing them and what not.
well on tuesday the 5th they had received the pictures.
every once in a while gpa wanted to talk to me and tell me how cute my kids are
and hoped that i was doing well. that was the last time i spoke with him.

the next day i had an in depth conversation with gma
about if and when gpa dies, how emotionally she will be
he was starting to lose his mind
and her and i had been talking about how hard it is to see the one you love
basically falling apart and the lack of quality of life he was living.
we talked about him sleeping all the time
and how she would be ok since he just slept 3/4 of the day anyways.
then on thursday as we continued to talk about her being ok if he died
she said she would be ok, cause she talks to me everyday
and that is something she looks forward to
she then asked if i would be ok when she died. which i won't be.
expect to know i will be a hot mess
i cry just thinking of it. anyways. i will have a huge void to say the least.

i called gma later that evening for something dumb.
like a recipe question or something. i don't even remember.
but what i do remember is gpa...not asking to talk to me
but telling gma to tell me he loved me and missed my family
which was super out of the blue
because he never did anything like that.
if he had something to say he would ask to talk to me.
looking back...that was his good bye
even though we didn't know he would die a few short hours later.

friday morning i got the call and we were on our way to utah by noon.
after eddie tied some things up at work.
it was so nice to be with gma and she is doing so well.
one thing i wanted to do was take pictures
to document this farewell. because i know gma loves pictures
i know she would appreciate these pictures
that she would be able to look at them whenever she wanted or not at all.
these pictures are just a few of what i took.

my aunt gloria created a beautiful spread
of pictures through out his life.

eddie was so helpful and supportive
gma kept telling me how great of a guy i had, as if i didn't know :)

the viewing wasn't as hard as i thought it would be.
he didn't look like himself, if that makes sense.
for one...when he slept he always had his mouth wide open.
so maybe if his mouth was wide open he would have looked a little more like gpa
his hair was also combed back, where as he always wore a part.
but i will cherish this picture, even though with the make up on his hands
gpa always wanted me to cut his nails and file them
he would even go to the extent of running his fingernail against his shirt
to make sure there weren't any snags
when i lived in utah and worked not to far from their home
he would call and ask if i would come for lunch
so i could cut his nails. and he would always want me to do it right away
as if i would forget.
when i moved away and would come visit he would still want me to cut his nails
and would always want me to do it right away
even though i would be staying for a few days.

we had a beautiful grave side/site? funeral for him
i could tell gma didn't hear anything he said to her
since he was whispering and she is a little hard of hearing.
but basically thanked her for his service in the military.

love this picture.

the men in the family sang his favorite song
'because i have been given much'

it was so nice to have all the grand kids come together.

norman, our oldest relative living (93) gave a few remarks
and talked about memories of him and his wife
and gma and gpa when they were younger (in their 20's)

gma and her daughters.

after the funeral, gloria's ward put on a wonderful luncheon for us.
and of course i am eternally grateful to my jessica.
not only did she open her home to us
but she also watched emi for 2 days straight.
eddie and i didn't think she was ready to experience a funeral or viewing
we explained great grandpa died and went to live in heaven
with his son bobby, mom, dad and brother. and she accepted that.
