splash pad

the splash pads at the city parks just opened this past week.
on saturday with some time after naps and before dinner
we decided to check it out.
makai had never experienced a splash pad before.
and we really had no expectations, as this is the first year
that emi has even enjoyed them.
she is our "nervous/timid" child and is reluctant to try things sometimes.
even if there are kids running around, smiling and laughing.
he loved it!!

this is the same child that would cry the entire time he was in the shower
he doesn't like water on his head.
so when he just stood there with a smile. i was so happy!!

it probably helped he had his big sissy to play with.

emi had a perma-grin the entire time.
she had so much fun. she played a little on the play ground.
then decided she wanted to get wet. then played some more.

he really had a great time and enjoyed all the water features.
i think it helped they had a area for smaller kids.

emi enjoyed playing on the both sides.
makai loved to stand underneath the giraffe.
it is very similar to a shower.
i didn't get any good pictures over in the big kid area due to other kids.
i got splashed many times and will wear my swimsuit next time.

i think i need to zoom in on makai and blow this up.
this is how i will remember makai as a child.
he runs like he is 5 and is always smiling.

makai followed emi wherever she went.
i am glad she didn't mind, cause one day she will.

she seriously smiled the entire time.

i wish i could figure out photoshop so i can crop him into the above picture.
i wasn't able to get them both to look at me.
probably too much going on and other kids to play with.

i think this was his favorite feature because it was the same height as him.

he seriously had so much fun!

he kept patting/swatting the water and thought it was hilarious.

"you ain't cool unless you pee your pants"...name that movie.
eddie held makai for like 2.5 seconds cause he was shivering.
but after 2.5 seconds he wanted to get back in the water.
leaving eddie with a wet lap...we had a good laugh.
and eddie sat there with the towel covering himself until we left.

weekly update

i'm feeling like things have been crazy busy this week.
i'm at the brink of feeling stressed yet i have everything under control.
i suppose that is a normal feeling to feel as a busy mom.
i will probably look back and laugh...that having 2 kids was so easy.
but sometimes 2 kids is hard.

emi was able to pick and eat the first strawberry from our garden.

we headed to the library for story time.
when emi and i went to the $ store the night before.
we found makai some sunglasses.
this picture is the only time he has worn them. he isn't a fan of them.
and emi loves to wear my extra pair. she looks so cute in them.

makai loves music and loves to dance.
this was at the preschool story time.

makai was right there with all the big kids.
i was a little shocked how much he follows directions.
because when i take him to the toddler story time he does his own thing.

emi too has a blast at story time.
and when i mention taking makai without her she gets jealous.
i think she is going to love school!!

during makai's nap time i had emi clean her room.
when he woke up and she didn't come find me to tell me
i knew she must have fallen asleep.
she slept for a long time and when she woke up, i asked her about her nap.
she claimed cleaning was so boring and made her tired. ha!
she didn't pick up a single thing, so not sure what was so tiring.

one afternoon...like a couple days before mother's day
we finally decided on a mother's day project.
there are so many options just a matter of choosing something.
we figured our gma's could use another bag, plus i wanted one for me.

emi is quite the sassafras.
one night i mixed in some green onions, tomatoes and avocados into our salad.
i usually mix lettuce and ranch for her.
first she found the tomato and said: what the crap?!
you know i hate tomatoes!!
so i knew she was gonna make a fuss about the other stuff.
i acted like i was looking at my phone but really i was camera ready.
when she found the onion she said: you've gotta be kidding me!
i just laughed as i took a picture of her ugly mug.
then i broke the news there were also avocados.

emi has super sensitive skin.
her dermatologist even suggests luke warm baths
and for her to be in it less than 5 minutes because her skin gets irritated.
i finally, well the easter bunny....got some extra sensitive bubbles.
luckily they don't irritate her skin.
she loves to make beards. it never gets old.
just yesterday i acted like i didn't recognize her since she does it daily.

this is how makai acts between 12:30-1pm
i try to keep him awake until 1 to take a nap, just so we are consistent.
he will lay down with his eyes half open.
i will suggest taking his nap
and he gets up and runs away laughing...fully awake.
5 minutes later he is half asleep again. cracks me up!

i love to go in a watch him sleep.
he is a light sleeper and sometimes startles away for 2 seconds when i walk in.
most nights he sleeps on his stomach with is butt in the air.
this position is how he sleeps when he first goes to sleep.

i didn't realize until i uploaded these pictures.
but he is wearing the same exact outfit as he wore the previous week.
this was the toddler story time, for kids 18 months-3.
i would say he is one of the younger kids.
he knows to stay on the carpet but he is all over the place.
just before this picture when she reading a book.
he was the only one standing and she asked who's kid he was.
cause she was wanting to him to sit.
i don't think she has any kids. i force him to sit he screams.
i let him stand, he stands and listens.
i guess we'll start sitting in the back from now on.

it's amazing to me that emi is more interested in the activities i plan for makai
and he is more interested in watching her tv shows.

makai's speech therapist suggested ditching the sippy cup for straw cups
to help develop and strengthen his mouth muscles.
the first day it was great but every day since he keeps pulling the straw out.
i think i need to invest in some toddler friendly straw cups.
great! like we need more kid cups around here.

makai got his first official scrapped knee today.
he had fallen once at the park but he wasn't bleeding.
he tripped and fell again minutes later and this time he scraped the skin.
he came to me to kiss it then went about his business.
when i got makai dressed for bed in just a onesie emi kept asking where his pants were.
i explained it was hot and he didn't need pants.
she just couldn't get over that concept.

mother's day celebration

after weeks of thinking of what to make for mother's day
i finally bite the bullet and just chose something i wanted.
emi picked the design. she really wanted to do thumb prints
and i love how it turned out.
i love that i made my own mother's day gift. ha!
i put the names on the top portion that is empty.

every year i just want an updated picture of me and the kids.
and every year i hate how i look.
i'm trying to get over myself and just do it.

friday emi's school had a preschool celebration.
eddie took pictures of us before we left.
she picked out my outfit, down to the matching bows in our hair.

i was going to wear my hair down but emi wanted me to wear it in a bun.
i think cause i always want to put her hair in a bun.
so she was thinking i would be happy she was letting me.
oh well...we always have mother's day to wear matching curly hair.

when we arrived to a cute little tea party.
emi was so cute and asked to : please pass the fruit.
i loved hearing all her manners.
we were at a table with all boys. emi hangs with the boys.

then they sang all the moms a song.
she was in the worst spot ever. and this was with my zoom lens.
she was in the back right.
and a teacher was standing in front pretty much blocking her.

after we dated and were waiting for the next activity
we decided to take a selfie.
i think she loved having one on one time.

the first activity was for use to make bracelets.
well i assumed the activity was for us to do together.
but when we were done i noticed none of the other moms made one.
oh well...emi loved her new bracelet.

there were all sorts of beads.
when i would show emi a shiny or a certain bead she would steal it for hers.
it was pretty funny and i thought was a fun activity.

when we were done we found mason.
he was in rare form and wouldn't look up.
she was like...mason! look up!! like an old grouchy wife.
he didn't even respond to her.

our next activity was for the kids to make us hats.
at first she was very into a flower design.
then when she realized that was gonna take forever
she just went to down putting dots everywhere.

she thought it was hilarious!
all the other moms thought her laughing was so funny.
she does have a cute laugh.
i don't remember exactly what she was saying.
but every time she said something all the other moms cracked up.

then we headed outside for our spa treatments.
in the field trip hand out thing it mentioned we would be getting our nails done.
so i was prepared to have nail polish all over.

she was so into it but it seemed so hard to be left handed.
i kept trying to help direct her but she ended up painting them sideways.

mr. ray took this picture for us and i sent it to eddie.
he said he had a good chuckle.

then it was time for my massage.
first she did my back with those hand rubbing things.
then she massaged my arms with lotions. it was so nice.

a better view of my nails.

before we left the kids got to take a picture with the tea cup.
we had a great time.
and i am so thankful eddie stayed home with makai so i could enjoy myself.

weekly update

the pool at gma and gpa's is almost ready
during the winter it collects leaves and such
we went over one afternoon and gpa got in to scrub the tile.
of course the kids wanted to go in but i hadn't planned for than
so the kids went skinny dipping. they loved it.

uncle russell and aunt kailey had bought makai some jordans
he finally fits into them.
i was so nervous for him to go outside and get them dirty.
and i will admit i wiped them down with a baby wipe when we got home.

i thought this picture was hilarious.
obviously emi has no clue on how to squat.

makai really loves sofia the first and doc mcstuffin
along with frozen...so he loves to sit and read with emi.
more times than not, he is the one reading the book.

as we left for school emi had to wear her sunglasses.
makai was a little stiff about the whole thing.
he was afraid to move in fear they'd fall off.

saturday morning we headed to a pancake breakfast
and headed to the parade for the western festival.
i think we stayed up too late the night before
and woke up and out the door too early. cause both kids were crabby.

we were lucky to get a spot across from the judges station
so we were able to see all the performances.
the parade was pretty lame (smaller than we anticipated) but the kids loved it.

makai is really starting to pay attention to the tv.
he loves the morning shows and will watch for a little bit.
emi is the world's slowest eater lately.

it's been in the 80's this past week.
with a nice cool breeze...so allergies have been horrible.
so after dinner we have been enjoying some frozen treats.

makai had a home visit appt with a speech therapist...more on that later
and emi was feeling a little neglected...read....acting out
so after makai went to bed, her and i went on a little date.
to the popcorn shop and to the $ store to pick something out.
she looked at every isle and decided on a tinkerbell puzzle.

our library has toddler reading time during the time emi has school.
i thought it would be a good idea to take him
since he kind of just gets dragged around to emi's things.
he was on the youngest end of kids there but seemed to enjoy it.
i could tell he was a little shy without his sissy there.
he mainly just say on my lap.
i found it funny that he decided to sit patiently after it was all over.
it was as if he thought it was gonna start.
he sat there for close to a minute before moving.

he made a little craft.
here is the thing about makai and markers.
he likes to color on his finger than the paper.
so he is trying to secretly color his finger.
even though i reminded him 100x to color on the paper.

we finally made it to the new recycling center near our house.
emi has been asking to go and seems knowledgeable about recycling
i guess they talk about it a bunch at school.
i've been saving all this crap to take....and all the took was our old printer.
i guess they don't take empty paint cans. you just dry them out and toss them in the trash.
after we drove through the donation thing we got out and went inside.
they have a reuse room with all sorts of paints and household items.
they are all free and i wanted to take stuff but felt weird.
i might go back when i don't have monster makai trying to climb the shelves.
