bathtime

makai's bellybutton fell off this week
it was nasty! it always is.
a few days before, every time i opened the snaps or zipper on his clothes
this nasty smell would escape. so i knew it was getting close.
well it came off, and the center wasn't fully cooked.
it was still white or whatever color umbilical cord is.
i sort of was grossed freaked out that it was still open
but then i figured that if it wasn't healed by his dr. appt, i'd ask about it.
well the very next day it was all crusty. so i waited one more day
and sure enough it was all healed.

even thought emi is only 3 1/2
i feel a little rusty/nervous, like it's been so long since i've done this or that
but once i do something, it's like riding a bike
and luckily makai is super chill and just hung out
not making a single peep!

he really enjoyed having the washcloth on him
and i liked it there, so i didn't get peed on.

 privacy please sister!!
more like, oh hey....mom thinks i need a bath, can you believe that?
ok and he has huge feet! i hope all the shoes i bought will fit him :)

this is my favorite picture. such a cutie.

emi was so excited to help!
if you can't tell makai was the first to bathe and get dressed this day

even though this picture isn't in focus on their faces
i love emi's sweet little face in this picture.

then we thought it was hilarious that emi needed to get her camera
she cracks us up!!
would you like a tour of our house? ha!
the door way to the left is makai's room/office
emi's room is the middle door and our room is the door on the right
you can stand in our kitchen and see the whole house.
to the left is the dining and living room
the bathroom is to the right and the stairs go down to the front door.

poor left handed child can't hold the camera right
she puts her right hand all weird and covers the front, ha!
we did figure out that if we do his hair in a mo-hawk
it isn't all crazy, just a little crazy :)

the zoo

momo is here visiting this week, so we decided to hit up the zoo
last time emi went was with her cousins in april
so she was due again to go to the zoo
when we got our tickets they gave use these washers
to choose a program we'd like the zoo to support.
emi could careless and enjoyed watching the washers go in circles.

not quite tall enough
which is fine cause i don't think she would ride alone anyways
and this time we got a key!
i think that was her most favorite part of the zoo, besides the giraffes of course!

our first stop the giraffes. she loved that it told information about them
but she really loved the song at the end
she would dance to each song and insisted on doing the key twice.

watching the giraffes.
she remembered feeding the giraffes with gpa, way back in april.
sad this zoo doesn't have any elephants.

i kept trying to take pictures with the animals in the background
she was more interested in posing and having her picture taken.

she loved the songs at the end
we had a good time laughing at her and her silly dancing.

mr. makai was there, fast asleep
until the end, then he turned into a ferocious beast!
that's what i call it when he goes from hungry to starving in 2.5 seconds.

emi of course found a gazebo and turned into playing restaurant.
luckily momo was willing to play along.
i get tired of playing restaurant lady so it was nice to have someone else play the role.

emi loved the carousel.
which is a new thing, because until recently she didn't really like them
even having eddie hold her, or riding on the bench portion.

she is doing this half serious smile lately.
i think she thinks she is being funny, who knows.
i do know she loved it.

maybe i am just old, but didn't we use to have to wear the seat belts?

i'm thinking emi might have a hearing problem.
she seems to be sensitive to loud music and noises.
this is just a perfect example, she thought the carousel music was too loud.
after the zoo we went to lunch and relaxed the rest of the day
which we needed after all that walking.

weekly update {35}

this was our first week home alone
luckily it was a short week since eddie was off on monday
i'm happy to report everyone is alive and happy.

emi has started this new thing.
folding her arms.
she does it when i do her hair, when she watches tv
and even when she is being spoken to. funny girl.

mr makai. well he peed on the couch this week.
initiation to the mother of boys club i guess
i laid him just like this picture and took a shower
while my "babysitter" babysat him :)
when i went and checked on them, i found him in a puddle
was my shower really that long that he peed through his diaper?!?
weird, so i go change him....his diaper is completely dry
hmmm, what did emi spill? and how did she spill it under him?
then i realize the problem as it starts happening again
his manly parts were pointed north, not south!!
so it was coming straight out of the top of the diaper.
now i know to check, and double check it is facing south :)

my mom came over and babysat while i went and ran some errands
as i was pulling into the drive way it was sprinkling
i hurried in to tell emi to put her boots on and grab her umbrella.
by the time she made it down the stairs
the rain cloud had pasted :( she was like, where are the puddles?!?
do you know how difficult it is to explain it was just one rain cloud
and it's gone now, as in way over there....
luckily she will have plenty of chances to play in the rain as fall is next.

my mom is working the gma card
every time she sees emi, she has some sort of new card game or writing book for her
emi loved these matching cards. they kept her busy for a long time.
i also believe emi will be one of those students
that stands when working on something. i was like that.

oh emi and her buddy.
i guess eddie says hi buddy!
so emi has started that too.
she loves to hold makai but usually for less than 1 minute.
she either says he is too wiggly or he is hurting her back/tummy/legs
speaking of things eddie does that she remembers
she is in a tattle stage or telling all our secrets
she told my mom that daddy says dang-it!
and mommy says that isn't nice to say. ha!
i guess we better watch how we act and what we say :)

emi is trying so hard to write, it's driving me crazy
i decided she needs to learn the alphabet and have it down before she starts writing
so this week we worked on the letter A.
the good news, she loved doing all the crafts.
the bad news, she still doesn't recognize things that start with A.
she would say no to everything i said, but would identify things by picture.
just not sound which i think it really weird.

makai had his first big blow out, while my mom was babysitting.
he has had two since...one today while eddie was babysitting so i could go to RS.
emi maybe had 5 blow outs her whole infancy.
with that said, i invested in some oxi-clean while it was on sale at costco.
he is seriously the perfect baby. i am weird and love newborns.

emi is up before he is in the morning.
i think it's hilarious the first thing she says: where's my baby?!?
before even looking in the bassinet.
i think he going to get switched to his crib this week.
he is eating at 12:30am and 4-5:30am and sleeping in between
his snorting and weird breathing is driving this light sleeper crazy.

i captured a smile. well a half smile.
this was the tail end of it, because he has a dimple and i don't see it.
this was right before blow out #2.
probably laughing to himself what a mess he was about to make.

eddie called me thursday from work, explaining there were circus tickets available.
i was so excited...i thought i had never been to the circus.
my mom says i have...must have been memorable.
eddie called me back and said we got tickets for that night
problem was...emi didn't take a nap
i thought for sure she was going to fall asleep on the drive to the arena
the show started at 7pm, she was done by 8pm
we left around 9pm, which was right before it ended anyways.
she loved what she saw of it!
and of course makai slept the whole time in his car seat.

here is her folding arms again.
i just find it silly.
she is watching some new tiger show on pbs.
this girl is addicted to tv and movies.
maybe pulling her from preschool wasn't the right choice :)
looks like i need to step it up in the entertainment dept.

we also made it to tanner's football game
it was a last minute decision, as i didn't really want makai exposed yet
but it is only going to get cooler. so we decided to just go and keep him in the ergo carrier.
well by half time he was fussing and eddie was sweating.
we decided to take him out since he was all sweaty, i felt horrible.
luckily we weren't really sitting near anyone and we were outside.
probably the longest he has been in fresh air his whole life.

more and more he is opening his eyes.
they are much lighter than emi's.
i knew emi was going to have dark brown eyes from the start.
makai has these light grey/blue eyes.
it will be interesting to see what color his eyes turn out to be.
he is starting to really enjoy looking at the blinds and different shadows.
he hasn't found the ceiling fan yet but i'm sure he will love it when he does.

business in the front...

 party in the back!!
he doesn't have a mullet
but he sure does have crazy, un-tamable hair
this is freshly washed.
the back stands straight up no matter what
only laying down when petted one million times by emi.

his hair is much lighter than emi's
but he does have wavy hair on the sides when wet
just like emi did when she was a newborn with straight air
looks like my poor children have my crazy wavy/curly hair.

one week old

is this my new life?!? ha!
i had to take a picture of how crazy things were today.
emi makes herself at home in the living room
picks out movies as if i'm gonna let her watch all of them.
while makai just sleeps in the swing.
i was able to clean the whole house today
while emi watched peter pan and "babysat" makai.
every time i checked on them, she would say: he's fine. i'm watching him.
i am feeling good, back to normal and i've realized
i never "nested" and my house and baseboards were a mess!

this is an un-edited picture. but so cute!!
we have been on the fence about hiring a photographer.
i decided to try to take some, see if it would be worth hiring someone.

i love this picture of emi and makai.
if only you knew she had pajamas on and yesterday's hair.

his coloring is all wrong in this picture, compared to the picture above.
i think i will take more when his belly button falls off
every single full body shot i took of him, he was showing off his man junk
so, i'll have to figure something out about that.

his first bath

eddie was a brave soul and volunteered to give makai
his first sponge bath.
i think i can count on both hands how many times
eddie had given emi a bath....
so i was happy to see he was confident to give makai a bath.

makai was very calm and collected.
i think he really enjoyed being at eye level with emi
because he was mainly watching and listening to her.

this was really the first time he had opened his eyes for longer than a few minutes.
he seems to be such a sleep boy
and can hardly keep his eyes open.

say what? your gonna take my diaper off?
you know that is the only time i cry!?!

hey! this isn't so bad....

then i took over for the washing of the hair.
his hair is constantly greasy looking cause emi pets his head.

he loved the entire bath.
the only time he cried was when his diaper was off
and he was getting the scrub down.

seriously, the calmest child ever.
i wonder how he will do when his cord comes off and he actually can be submerged.

i love this look. he does this all the time, totally studying my face.
he even turns his head emi's direction when she is talking.

of course emi wanted to help out.
we gave her the hair combing job.

nice and clean with a matching hair do to eddie.

he did pretty good for his first bath.
i was expecting screaming and crying.
