Spare time and The power of prayer

Have any spare time in between school and work and homework? Sometimes at work during slow..periods..during the day I like to make my contribution to end world hunger. Freerice.com In case you have never heard of it... for each words you get right, they donate 20 grains of rice through the United Nations to help end world hunger. It is kind of addicting, until your vocabulary levels drops and you feel dumb like me. I try to do at least 1,000 grains of rice a day, and it doesn't take very long.

Little story about the power of prayer. So, Eddie and I both had a night class last night at the same time, different schools, different subjects obviously. So, I'm sitting in my physiology lab (last class I have to take until I can apply for Nursing school) and the teacher hands out the syllabus. I almost threw up....my midterm...half the grade for that class....was scheduled for the week we will be in Kauai, laying on the beach getting a tan. I thought of course that would be my luck. I decide I feel so sick to my stomach that I need to text Eddie and let him know...so he can stress about it too :)no, not really...I just couldn't think about anything else. He wrote me back..."mine too!!" I thought oh great!! Time to say a little prayer.

By this time I am not even listening to the rules of the lab....how to pull on the shower in case you spill chemicals on yourself or how to to use the eye washer, or where to put hazardous waste, etc. So, I am done saying my silent prayer and my teacher says this, like instantly after I say amen....'Does anyone have an issue with the week of the midterm?'...(we only meet once a week).... I shot my hand up and said 'YES!!' He said 'ok, come talk to me after class'....so many thoughts going on. What will I do? Will I have to wait another semester to take this class, can I just change my lab? and if I change my lab, when will I go?

Anyways, he starts a movie on the biological clock and why we wake and sleep when we do...anyways...I couldn't stand it. Literally the movie wasn't even on a minute and I walked up to him and asked him what I should do? He said he moved the midterm up a week because his wife was due the week the midterm was originally scheduled. Hello!! Thank you for knocking your wife up!! He said that I just need to remind him the week before the midterm that I won't be there and that I can take it when I get back!! So relieved and happy my prayer was answered.

But then I remembered....oh yeah...what about Eddie's midterm? I call him when I get out of class and he too says his teacher said it shouldn't be a problem!! Can you believe it? Don't forget to pray, even for the little things...he does listen!!

Signature gift....

Serving in the singles ward we have been invited to many wedding receptions. I always make these easy magnets because when Eddie and I first got married we had no magnets, and to me it makes a house more of a home. I usually put them in some sort of canister and also add bag clips....something else we didn't have. I will walk you through the process for all you non-crafty people out there.

First you will need some card stalk. I like to use a neutral color. I also purchased this hole puncher from Robert's, my local craft store....use the 40% off coupon, otherwise it will cost you around $10....or you can just trace each rock, which is a pain!!

So, punch a bunch of holes.
You will also need 'Decor Gems'. Roberts is the only place I have found these. Make sure you get the 'Ice Clear'...there is another "clear" but it is cloudy. The bags are $1.49 for about 20-22 of them. So if you do the alphabet you will need two bags. I usually add numbers too, to use up the gems.
You will also need sticker letters. I suggest stickers because card stalk letters can be a pain. You have to punch those too, then glue the neutral card stalk to the letter card stalk...so just use sticker ones. I found these ones below at Target for $4.99.
You will also need the 'Glossy Accents' glue and the 'E6000' glue. I have only found the glossy glue at Roberts but I have seen the E6000 at Wal-mart. You will use the glossy glue to glue the card stalk to the gem and the E6000 is to glue the magnet on. Like I said before, use the 40% off coupon. These glues run around $5 each, so go twice or bring your husband like I do. :)

You will also need magnets. You can buy a pack of 8 for $3 something at Roberts but I have found a pack of 50 at Wal-mart for less than $7. Little less quality but it's not like your holding up 10 pieces of paper.

This is what it should look like once you have punched a bunch of holes and added the stickers.
You don't need much glossy glue. Apply the glue directly to the gem then press the letter to the gem.
If you look at the top...11 and 2....I guess would be a good way to describe it. You will see air bubbles, you don't want that. Push those out because you can't go back and fix it.
This is what it will look like if you put to much glossy glue....that is ok....
just wipe it off, hence the news paper.
This is how I set them to dry.
Once dry...cut the edges off, if doing the alphabet...the first ones you did should be dried by the time you finish gluing the end of the alphabet. This is a pic of what it looks like before you trim it.
Post trimming.
This is what the trimmings look like. For those non-crafty types that aren't sure they are doing it right, you will...and I'm sure they will turn out great.
Now time to glue on the magnet.
You don't need much of the E6000 glue. It goes along way...and make sure you don't get it on your fingers or your two fingers will become one for a while. Not that, that happen to me or anything.
Press magnet firmly against the gem.
Your done!! YAY!!! This is what it looks like from the side. The magnet glue says it needs to dry 24-72 hours. I have never let it dry longer than 4 hours, I don't have that kind of patience.
The finished product!!
Here is the first ones I did. I used more of a cowboy themed sticker, found at Roberts.
Seriously, they are so easy and you can customize. Like you can do someones name. Who doesn't like magnets.

HOLY SICKNESS!!!!

There I was.... sitting and eating a Cutie from Costco. I go to take another slice and see this staring at me!! I think it is a maget but I'm not sure. I have thrown up less than 5 times in my 25 years of life and this sight didn't even induce vomiting...oh, how I feel so sick right now!! I wish I could make myself throw up but it never works.

Someone didn't like having their picture taken!!

Christmas Vacation, post Christmas

Christmas day....we slept in, ate breakfast...overnight french toast...yum, then opened gifts around 10am. We had a wonderful Christmas. Here is a highlight:

A few years ago, when the Willow Tree Nativity scene came out I mentioned I wanted it. The set is out of my budget, so I was so sad it would take me forever to get each piece...until last Christmas, my sweet mother-in-law sent me this:

And this year I got this:
SOO000 excited to finally set it up!!

We also got a beautiful picture of Christ. Eddie and I have never agreed on a picture of Christ. I guess different ideas of what Christ really looked like, down to different style of frames...were weird and picky.

We saw this beauty at Costco a few weeks before Thanksgiving. We thought...o.k. we can spend all our money we budgeted on food for this month or we can get this picture of Christ and have no food. It was a tough decision, we went with the food and left sad. We even thought about signing up for the American Express from Costco but we decided that wasn't a good idea. Literally the next day my mom calls me as is like..."what do you and Eddie want for Christmas?" um, hello....coincidence...I think not! I didn't even consult with Eddie, I told her ...the picture of Christ. A few days later we had it hung on the wall.

O.k....back to the vacation....
It was seriously a Christmas day miracle....it snowed!! My kind of snow...light little flurries that only stuck to the ground for an hour or so.

Ten minutes later
"Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree"
Aren't those the cutest P.J.'s!?!
Good Morning Beautiful!

After Christmas we went to The Container Store, Crate and Barrel....two stores Utah doesn't have but needs. We also went to Powell's Book Store in downtown Portland, biggest book store ever!! We got a few books for 'the collection'...and hung around downtown the remainder of the day.

I also learned how to sew...on a sewing machine. I'm so getting one!! I brought some fabric with me, but I also went to Niki's fabric store she works at. They have the cutest fabric...and you can order online!! I made some burp clothes and attempted a tagie blankie (teething blanket for babies), O.K...here is a pic of the tagie...which one did I buy and which one did I make?

I bought the pink one and made the polka dot one. I only made one because it was hard!!

The middle blue polka dot one was my first sewing project...besides the tote bag I made in 8th grade, but we won't count that since my teacher practically did the whole thing.
At this point I decided I was addicted and had to make more!!
I initially made them for baby shower presents, but I think I am going to keep at least one of each.

Russell also beat Super Mario 3 on the Wii and the boys went to a Blazer b-ball game while the girls stayed home.

And I wonder why Eddie never smiles...it is either the perma-grin or something like this.

We had a wonderful time!! Thank you Mom and Dad B for having us!! We are excited for Kauai in February...YAY!!

Christmas Vacation, pre Christmas

This year we were able to spend Christmas with Eddie's family in Portland. We did a ton of fun things....We arrived the Saturday night before Christmas, we saw the Dad from Harry and the Hendersons.

We were not that close, I had to zoom in all the way. Eddie was embarrassed because I used the flash and he might have seen me taking the pic.
Went to church...funny story.... Eddie and Russell both came into the kitchen before church wearing the same tie, just different colors and it wasn't planned. Eddie wanted a photo shoot.

Eddie and I
This is Eddie trying to 'open his eyes'...whenever he smiles his eyes look closed.

I also "worked" (fly on the wall) a half day, ok...ok...more like 1/4th day with Eddie's mom. She works in the labor and delivery, "Birth Place" at the hospital. Most of you know I would like to also go into Nursing and work in the NICU, so that was exciting for me. I have a pic on my phone, but I don't know how to transfer it from my phone to the computer *UPDATE*...Thanks Alicia for telling me how to get the pic off...for those that want to know you just e-mail yourself the picture from your phone, like sending a text.

K~ My legs are not that fat, at least I like to think they aren't and hopefully they really are not...as far as the rest of me...yes I am chubby and no I don't read the nutrition labels when I purchase food....in case you wanted to know how I keep up my figure. But don't you love my cute ballet flats, had to wear booties...not as cute!
Here are some more family pics.

We brought the Wii and had a fun time playing Wii sports and Wii play, I went to the fabric store so I could work on some projects. Then we had a delicious Christmas Eve dinner. Prime rib and all the trimming and my all time favorite....cream brulee'.

This picture was the first of many...we set up the tripod and used the timer for the first time. Too bad I set the timer to take three pictures instead of just one, I'm still a beginner photographer, what can I say?!. I would show the others but my ba-dunk-a-dunk looks big, so too bad, so sad. We had a good laugh.

The dinner was so yummy!! It was also fun to have Gma and Gma Anderson over. They are a funny couple, midway thru dinner Gma asked Gpa what the heck he had on!?! She said he didn't match or something, we just thought it was funny because they rode in the same car and she never noticed and their old. When I am in my 70's, I'm gonna wear whatever I want.
