GNO

Girl's night out, that is what Gma calls it when we go out. I like to take her to the movies so she gets out the house every once in a while....
and away from Gpa, since they are together 24/7.

(This post is more for memory than entertainment. If you don't want to read about my fun night with Gma...thanks for visiting the blog but skip this one.)

Last night I took her to Teppanyaki's for dinner.
A place she has been wanting to go forever.
She's been having a rough time lately
(feeling chubby, useless, etc...even at 85, sad!)
so I called her up...asked her if she wanted to go to the movies and that I wanted to treat her to dinner.
I didn't tell her where we were going, it was a surprise.
I pull up to Tepanyaki's and this is what she says, with a huge smile on her face:"I've always wanted to come here!"
So excited!! Gpa doesn't like anything but steak and potatoes or a hamburger.
But she loves Asian food, especially chow mein noodles.

If you've never been this is what it sort of looks like.
We sat on the end. Gma was talking up a storm with the guy next to her. Telling him all about how she has always wanted to come but her husband doesn't like Asian food. That she will never forget this. How many grand kids she has and great grand kids. That she has tried sushi but she thinks it's gross.
She totally jumped when they started the fire. I loved watching her enjoy herself. She ordered Shrimp with the noodles, her two favorite foods.
You also get this onion soup, more like a broth. You just sip it, but she wanted a spoon. But after seeing everyone else sip it, she sipped.
She turned to me..."I've always wanted to sip my soup".
Silly!! Like an excited 5 year old.
And she caught a shrimp. You know...how they toss it to you to catch....
with your mouth!!
I wish I would have gotten a picture.

After dinner we headed to the movies.
It was a good movie. It did say A-hole and the S word a lot but other than that it was good. Sometimes a little racey but nothing you need to close your eyes for. I thought it was funny too. I was afraid Gma wouldn't know what myspace, facebook, texting, or even e-mailing was but she went right along with it, like she knew.
Texting is a whole post in itself...she doesn't understand why I text people instead of just call them.

Overall we had a fun GNO. Next time....Confessions of a Shopaholic.

I was doing this!

Looking at that!

Visiting in this sweet pad!

Having fun with this guy!

And enjoying shaved ice!!

Today I am in freezing weather with on and off snow flurries. Ugh!
And why did my neighbor have to come over on Sunday night to tell me he and his wife will be in Kauai for 2 WEEKS!! And to keep an eye on the house.

6 weeks to go!

I can't believe time is flying by! Less than 6 weeks to go...

I thought it would be neat to compare the 3 pictures I have of my belly.
Yes just 3. I wish I would have taken one each week...but I didn't.

(25 weeks)

(30 weeks)

(34 weeks)

For some reason I don't want my face in the picture...ever. Maybe cause I look chubby wubby...or maybe it's cause I don't wear make-up and look like I just woke up.

Baby Shower

This weekend was such a fun one! My mom, mother in law and sister in law flew in from out of state for one of my baby showers. It meant so much to me to have them be there.

My mom wanted a picture of me in front of all the presents. Needless to say I wasn't ever looking at the camera when she snapped the photo.

And can I just say I have a love/hate relationship with maternity jeans!

Eddie's mom is making baby E a blessing blanket, which I am excited to see.
But she also gave us Eddie's baby blanket from when he was a baby.

I am so blessed to have such wonderful family and friends. I am so excited for her to get here and use everything we got.

Three, well technically four generations.

Thank you Gloria, Mel and Gma for putting this together. I had a great time. And appreciate everyone that was able to make it.

Happy Birthday!!

Today is Eddie's Gpa's birthday. And last month was his Gma's but I forgot to post a birthday shout out for her. We hope you both have a wonderful day!! We love and miss you both!

You have boyfriend?

Last night I decided to go get my nails done. I forgot why I stopped going to the Asian shops. I'm fine paying a little extra money for an actual conversation, that I can understand.

I was quickly reminded when some major language barriers were going on. Then she asked me if I had a boyfriend. I couldn't help but laugh and she had no clue why. If you have seen this video Nail Salon you know what I mean. If you've ever had your nails done before you will find the video funny. Otherwise, you might not. Good news is...they look good and I guess that is all that matters.

Disaster

My idea didn't really translate from my mind to paper.
Now I am back to starting over. Any ideas?

Monday, January 26, 2009

I think I need one of these. Every time I 'slouch' baby E shoves a foot or knee or something right under my rib. I have bad posture anyways... so maybe it isn't such a bad idea.

What's a girl to do....

All alone on a Saturday night while Eddie is at the BYU basketball game....
Do a craft of course!! A valentine one at that.
Step by step instructions for your viewing pleasure.

Start out with your blocks. I just went to Home Depot and got a 2X4 and had them cut it.

There is a catch though.... The 2X4 costs like $1.50, but they only cut the first two cuts for free, everything after that it is 50 cents for each additional cut. Yes, I said EACH additional. So, there are two ways around it. Be really nice to the guy cutting it, and hope he says don't worry about it...or just don't say anything as you check out. Which I personally think is dishonest but I did it...I admit it! Not sure why they have a sign near the saw but don't reinforce it at the checkout, but whatever. Or you can do what one guy suggested...by a saw for cheap....$70-90....cheap? Not when your buying a board for $1.50. Somehow get the 2X4 cut.

O.k. anyways...you'll need blocks and it all depends on how big you want them.
These are 5 1/2 inches tall and 4 inches tall.
Sand them real good. I found it easier to use a sanding block. But if you don't mind ruining your manicure, use plain ol' sandpaper.

Then paint the desired color. Or you can stain them.
I usually paint 2 or 3 coats.

While the blocks are drying, cut your scrapbooking paper. I used different paper for each and also the same for each block and I personally think the variety looks better.
Like recipes I don't measure. I just make sure there is like a 1/4 inch around. You'll see in a second.

Here is a second option if you want to spice things up a bit. Instead of using a letter, use a wood piece and cover it with glitter...the wood piece was 25 cents at the craft store.

I painted the heart red in case the glitter didn't cover all the edges. Also, I used spray adhesive. Not a good idea, but it worked. I would suggest using white glue.

Or else you will have glitter stuck all over your hand. I washed it like 10 times...I guess I will have to try nail polish remover.

Then let it rest. Before gluing the heart to the board make sure you shake off all excess glitter. Or you will have a mess. Not that I did that or anything. :)

Back to the painted blocks while the heart is resting.
Then use Mod Podge to glue on your scrap paper. First glue the back of the paper.
The side that goes against the painted block.

Like so... but make sure you spread it and not just a chunk of glue.

Then paint a layer of glue over the paper.
The glue will dry and you will not see the white streaks.

And there you have it. Let dry before putting lettering on or heart.

Lay vinyl lettering down. I rub it on with a tongue depressor a.k.a large popsicle stick.

Option one....without the glitter heart.

Option two....with the glitter heart.

Finished product. There are three different ones.

You still have a few more weeks to make this cute craft. It is cheap to make, if you can get the vinyl lettering for cheap or free...thanks Megan!!

Two in One

Today is Tanner's 12th birthday. And tomorrow is Gpa's 87th birthday!

Happy Birthday!!

P.S. Gma and I went and saw Bride Wars last night. It was cute, totally a girl movie.

P.S.S. I didn't get a Petunia Pickle Bottom bag like I wanted to yesterday. Oh well!

I'm snobby...

So I've been told.
I think of it more as... I like nice things. Expensive things.
Things a student budget can not afford.
I just have "Champagne taste and a beer pocket book" budget, like Gma says.

I thought I'd let anyone else out there who is interested in these expensive diaper bags know about this sale. It's by invite only. I know, snobby!

No. I don't have one, nor do I know if I will get one. I just drool and try to justify spending that much on a diaper bag.
It's going to become my purse right?
My favorite is the touring totes, looks most like a purse and not this huge diaper bag.

Only thing is...they are either 'certified seconds' or discontinued. There is nothing wrong with discontinued, it's just last season.
But 'certified seconds' could mean anything: tear, broken zipper, oil smudge...

They have a limited number of each style. There is a price difference between the 'certified seconds' and the discontinued, usually a big difference. But once the style is out, it is out...

Making room

For baby E...
How many times can you re-arrange a room that is only temporary?
Trying to fit a queen bed, dresser, book case, computer desk, crib and changing table into a guest bedroom is hard.
And crowded. And we still want to fit a glider in there... we'll see.

If you guessed that big ol' box last weekend to be a crib. You guessed right!

It is no longer "shoved" in the corner...we re-arranged the room to make it feel more like her room, even if it is only for a few months.
And she may never sleep in her crib.

The final product with her bedding.

Remember the E from last weekends projects... it still looks the same. I am having troubles committing to certain colors for her name. I was thinking green, blue and yellow...but is that too boyish?

Hayden Brian Quigley

What a cutie!! Jessica and Brian Quigley don't have a blog, yet! So, I thought I would post a picture for those of you that know the Quigley's and wanted to see Hayden. He was born 1/17/2009 at 2:15 a.m. He is 6 pounds 11 ounces and I don't remember how long.

30 weeks

I forgot to have Eddie take a pic of me this morning, so I decided to take a pic with my cell phone at work. When did my tummy get that big? I'm not even pushing out.

Less than 10 weeks to go!! But I have a feeling they are going to drag on forever.

For those that want updates:

Heart burn is doing way better.
I stay away from ketchup and onions...oh yeah and McDonald's hash browns.

Lost a few pounds since my last appointment.
I guess that is the luxury of being "pretty and plump" before I got pregnant

Dr. thinks she switched into the correct position.
Which explains the sudden foot underneath my right rib!

My blood pressure it up a tiny bit, whatever that means.

I wake up every night around 3:20 to use the restroom, like clock work.

I'm starting to feel a little tired like I did in the beginning.
So what if it's Wednesday and there are still dishes in the sink from Sunday.

She moves around like crazy.
Which doesn't bother me like I thought it would.

I think she likes milk.
I drank a whole gallon within a 24 hour period. Instead of water I wanted milk.

Next appointment is in 2 weeks. Yay for doctors appointments, I get to leave work early.

I love that face!

The face of pure excitement!! Like a fat kid in a candy store.

Last night Eddie got full blown kicks/punches from baby E.
His face was full of shock and pure excitement.

I love when he talks to her, he puts his mouth against my stomach and it sounds all muffled. And that he always remembers to read each day out of our pregnancy countdown book.
I can't wait to see his face when she finally gets here.

We have a Dr.'s appointment later today and we can't wait to hear her.
Maybe I'll give a little update and a belly shot later today.

(This pic is from his b-day when I surprised him with a guitar)

Weekend Projects

Put this hue-mungo thing together!

Plan my lesson. Why is it the one calling I didn't want to do, I got called to? When we got released from serving in the singles ward I thought, ok I hope they don't give me a calling that I have to teach a class. I was there 2 Sundays before I was asked to be a R.S. teacher. I'm starting to like it. This topic is a whole posts in itself.

And what shall I do with the 'E' for baby E. Guess you'll have to wait to see the finished product :)

Oh Chick-fil-a!

Will you be my valentine?

(if Eddie says no to my valentine offer, of course)

I sure do love your waffle fries
and are totally worth the .40 cents to make it a large

<3

What's worse?

  • not having your snuggle buddy
  • listening to a fire detector beep every minute throughout the night
  • wearing the same clothes to work the next day
  • wearing Gma's p.j.'s while yesterday's clothes got washed
  • looking at the clock every 20 minutes because you think you won't hear your phone alarm
  • trying to navigate to a foreign bathroom, twice in one night
  • hand combing your hair since there isn't a brush in sight
  • being kept up all night because the toilet makes a swishing sound every 5 minutes
  • not having a toothbrush to brush my teeth...good thing I have one at work
  • sleeping on pillows that are 60 years old
  • going to sleep without a t.v. to fall asleep to...bad habit
  • only option for breakfast was 8 day expired milk...quick run to McDonald's solved that
All because it snowed yesterday during the evening commute and the roads were iced over.
So, if you see me today. Don't ask, if I wore the same thing yesterday? Or if I need/want a piece of gum...cause I brushed my teeth when I got to work and I washed my clothes last night.
Boy, am I glad Monday is over and in 74 days (give or take) I won't even have to drive to work!
