the dentist

last friday emi had her very first dentist appt
the previous week we headed to the library to find some books
most were about cavities and fillings but she got the idea.

somehow i told my friend i had nothing going on
i agreed to babysit not remembering emi had
swimming lessons and a dentist appt.
it all worked out, but i wish i had my nice camera
oh well, i use my phone way more than my camera these days.

grant was so good the whole time
right until they called us back, he stared screaming
so i held him on my hip, while trying to take pictures with my free hand.
i sure got lots of looks, grant is 7 months and blonde
people thought he was mine and i was big prego again!
that was interesting explaining the situation.
that... and the fact that i will probably never have a blonde baby.

back to emi...she was so brave.
we talked about taking pictures of her teeth.

grant was kicking up a storm!
is this how my pictures will be when mr. m gets here? super blurry...
i better dust off my camera.
she wasn't so sure of the heavy bib.
but she did awesome taking wing bits and what not.

we then headed to the chair.
such a sweet picture.
she was explaining what was going to happen.
and asking if she brushed and flossed.
also asking if emi wanted to watch a movie, which of course she did.

we got to wear sunglasses and watch a movie.
emi did so good! just laid there with her mouth open.
i'm sure they say it to everyone, but they were commenting
on how well she laid there, that most 3 year olds are wiggly.

at one point emi was getting suctioned
and wasn't paying attention, so the lady physically shut her mouth
to suction the drool and stuff up.
well then emi bit down in it and wouldn't un-bite it
she had to move the headphones off to ask emi to open her mouth.
emi was totally oblivious to being poked and polished.

emi didn't even notice me hovering.
she did such a great job.
the dr. said she had nice "adult" looking teeth
white and very straight, so i went on to mention on how
when we lived in KY people would always ask me if she was
wearing a flipper...you know, making conversation
then him and the assistant started joking about people from KY and their teeth.
it was a little awkward, but funny at the same time.
what if i was from KY? anyways...
his point was, you want your kids to look like shrek teeth
not nice adult, straight looking teeth
so emi had some orthodontic work ahead of her :)
we also learned she has a pseudo (false) underbite
i guess something about her back teeth don't line up properly
so she has learned to chew with a under bite.
so hopefully headgear isn't in the future.
but i wouldn't be surprised, my sister had headgear :)
i guess it should correct itself when she gets her permanent teeth.
they then sent her a card in the mail a few days later
telling her she was a rock star and welcoming her into the
cavity free club!!
good job emi!!

today

today a few things happened that i want to remember for today
not just in our weekly update.
because by this time next week i am sure i'll have forgotten.
and even though today has been a trying day
i still want to remember it. these are the pictures i have taken today
of my emi girl. nothing special.

i realized last night i was out of a fabric i needed to fulfill an order.
how i missed that i was out is beyond me
i'll blame it on pregnancy brain.
so off to hobby lobby we went
but before we could do that we headed to the car wash
because everyday for the last 2 weeks emi has reminded me our car was dirty
and we needed to give it a bath.
well really it was way past a bath, so we went to a detailing place
that is where incident #1 happen.
we decided to wait outside at a table while the car was washed
while sitting there i thought hey...
maybe she would like to see it through the glass windows inside
so back into the building we went.
well, we waved and said hi to the car while it was getting washed.
emi wanted to go back outside to our table
well, by then an older man was sitting in 'her' chair
all the seats where taken outside except the table next to 'our' old table
i suggested we sit at the new table and out the doors we went
as i opened the door this tall older man was talking to an employee
he was at least 6'5, very tall.
so we walk by him, or so i think we are.
well emi decided to have manners and hold the door open
for someone else exiting the building, without me noticing.
well once this said person had exited emi came running to catch up to me
right at the same moment as the tall gentleman started walking
they had a big crash...can you guess who won?
emi skimmed her knee a little and started crying.
he apologized and said he didn't see her
i apologized she ran in front of him and said it was an accident.
well he got in his truck and that was that.
except for when emi stopped crying.
she kept going on and on about how he was as tall as a giraffe!!
and going on about giraffes don't push girls.
she didn't find it funny that every one could hear her and was laughing.
i was just glad he was in his truck and couldn't hear.

while we went to hobby lobby, i also decided to go to a
"specialty" nursing store for a nursing bra that was in the area
the "twins" need special fittings, and even then i have to order the biggest size
while i was in the dressing room which is more like a make shift room
no conversation is really private, i only tried on a few different bras
as they don't really make boulder holders in lots of varieties
ever single one, emi was like:
does it feel good? does it fit?
finally after the 10th comment i asked her to be quite
i think my exact words were: ok, no more talking!
i should have known better, she is my child
she said: excuse me! you don't need to talk so rude!!
you need to talk nice, or you'll have a time out!
then i hear the lady helping me bust a gut.
so i decide on my purchase and we check out. as quickly as possible hopefully.
while the lady is running my card, emi says:
come on this is taking so long, it's boring!
finally.... the lady says: thanks! have a nice day as we are walking out.
emi goes: thanks! have a nice day...blah blah blah!!
totally mocking the lady! which is something she does to me too...
i was like, i am so sorry! to the lady.
i then scolded emi, that was so rude and we don't make fun of people!
in which she says: mama, quit being so bossy!
please save me! she is only 3...

we finally make it to lunch which is tricky these days
emi doesn't eat a lot of fast food
she has taken a liking to bean burritos
and me, well anything i eat lately is giving me such bad heartburn
so we sit down to eat, i get emi all settled
and this is the response when she noticed i moved the tray
i guess she was obviously using it as a plate.
the two men on their lunch break were amused by her bratty-ness.
i however was not!
she said in her low, i'm in trouble voice:
HEY! mommy!! why you mov'in my tray!
why do i feel like i have to apologize to her?!?
i said i'm sorry, i didn't know you were using it.
by then i was ready for a nap!

so we went home and took a nap :)
i took need these naps, since i don't sleep well at night.
well, she didn't wake up in a good/refreshed mood like usual.
she insisted on watching a movie, in which i said no
she stomped her feet, she growled
i mentioned i don't to girls that talk rude.
in which i was told to stop being so bossy. sheesh!
i suggested she take a break in her room to cool down
the fit continued while i ignored her.
then all of a sudden she was gone. ahh! peace and quite.
a couple minutes later, she comes back....still mad
saying something about why am i the boss?!?
i think, like why do you get to decide if i watch a movie or not.
finally my saving grace came home and saved me!
oh eddie, thank you.
sometimes i just need a break from this 3 year old madness.
i made the suggestion he should take her to mutual
and he didn't even argue, he thought it was a great idea.
now here i am blogging, something i have been trying to do for 3 days.
like any young mom, i rarely get any kind of break or personal time.
i'd rather be taking a bath or reading a book but blogging is the next best thing.
i'm sure i'll look back and miss these days
but for today.... i'm just glad today is almost over.

weekly update {27}

we have an official swimmer!!
the week started out as a nightmare, but ended well.
we tried a more private route
well when we arrived to swimming lessons emi had two boys in her class
younger than her, and naughty.
(i'm still trying to convince myself i can be a mother to boys)
first off the boys wouldn't even put their face in the water
and they just kept throwing the toys in the pool
so basically the teacher did nothing but ask them to listen
and try to convince them to put their faces in the water
while emi swam around in the area she could touch.
well by day two the same things were happening, and it was only a 5 day lesson
tuesday, i hated having to be an adult/parent.
i called the mom of the teacher to ask if we could put her in a different class
they are members of the church, people we see...so i didn't want to ruffle any feathers
well we switched her to a class with one other girl at her same swimming level
but this girl had goggles!!!
so off to the store we went for goggles and butterfly rings.
i worked with emi and created a game and emi was comfortable.
so thursday i felt like she could be pushed, well that just ended in tears
wednesday she been swimming a couple feet towards this girl
but thursday she kept crying...come to find out
the girl was wearing a different bathing suit and emi couldn't see her
so she was swimming blind.
so on friday we brought her butterfly rings, since the girl wasn't going to be there.
sure enough that is what she needed.
she swims at least 6-8 yards! all in one breath, ha!
she does so good with her arms and legs but won't take a breath.
and when she dives under to get her rings, it's hilarious.
she takes this huge breath even before she goes under.
i'm just happy she is able to swim to the side if she were to fall in
even though, i just read an article about even if your kids has had lessons
there is still a risk for drowning at her young age.
i still don't plan on letting her roam around the pool
but at least i have some comfort in knowing i've offered her the skills
in case, heaven forbid something ever happen.

we have a 7am no t.v. rule.
nothing in on before 7am anyways...but some times
emi wakes up around 6:15am
emi for some reason still hasn't figured out our passwords for our phones
she can work my phone, probably better than me
yet she doesn't know how to unlock it, even though she watches me type the code in
luckily this was a morning eddie hadn't gone to the gym
so i was able to capture what happens some mornings.
she looks at all my pictures and videos on my phone.
or plays a game or two, depending on what's on my phone.
i must be tired the mornings i let her look at my phone
because some mornings she plays quietly in her room
or gets dressed for the day, even getting herself breakfast.

emi got an ice cream at costco one day
i forgot to ask for half, so i dumped half of it out
she doesn't need or eat that much.
by the time we were in the car on the way home
emi was so happy to be eating ice cream soup!

a good example of emi getting herself dressed
usually all one color, with socks!!
does the child not understand it's usually above 85 degrees?!?
luckily she doesn't like how socks feel in shoes
so she usually takes them off before we go out in public.
not to mention she doesn't let me comb or re-do her hair.
if it's not in her face, she feels it's fine.

we finally got a handle of how many friends she can have in bed
since she is 3, and that is her magic number
she gets to choose 3 each night.
which she really hasn't done. some nights she has the bed to herself
i wonder if she likes the space.
i love checking on her each night to see how she is sleeping.
she sleeps a different way every night.

the goggles and butterfly rings!!
emi was all ready to try them out wednesday.

friday morning was her last day of swimming lessons.
she insisted on a push up for her treat.
so at 9:30am we went to the gas station for a push up
i'm sure the guy working thought i was parent of the year
feeling my kid ice cream for breakfast :)
i was just so happy emi was swimming, i didn't care.

we also babysat grant on friday.
i was feeding him peas and she thought it was hilarious
i would even ask if she wanted some.
i think she enjoyed having him around
he is still learning to sit up, so i put a nursing pillow behind him
every time he would fall over she felt the need to help him up.

on saturday we headed to folsom and had a picnic.
emi loved it, despite her sleepy looking face.
they have a tiny zoo there. more of a sanctuary for animals
since it was 1:30 by the time we were finished playing on the playground
and they close at 3, we decided we could come back another day.

instead we rode the train that goes around the park.
emi loved it!!
i would have to say i was find getting in.
getting out, it was not pregnancy safe.
having a bowling ball on your stomach
makes balancing and using your stomach muscles a little difficult.

emi must of had fun cause she was pooped!!
she cracks me up because for a long time she was fake sleeping
she probably didn't realize she was actually going to fall asleep.
overall a pretty good week!

eddie's first 10k

emi and i are so proud of eddie
he ran his first race ever...a 10k
eddie has been training, working out trying to get ready
for his tough mudder in september

one day i was asking him how long the run was
for the tough mudder, he said something like 13 miles
we talked about how maybe he should run a race or two
for endurance purposes i suppose.
well come to find out, the tough mudder isn't 13 miles of running
i misunderstood... the whole course is 13 something miles
with obstacles mixed in. i think he will do just fine.

we were almost late to the race
i had to drop him off at the starting line, then go park
he thought i was just going to go in my jammies
he was shocked i planned to shower before 9 :) kidding
luckily they did a little flag ceremony thing
and the people in wheelchairs had a one minute head start
so we made it just in time to see him run by.

emi and i took a short cut and waited for him to run by
emi was proud of her sign.

eddie going strong...i think this was into the second mile
maybe even still the first mile.

then we hurried back to the starting line again
as the 10k racers were to run the 'track' twice.
while we waited we saw the chick-fil-a cow
emi is terrified of him and watched him the entire time
watching his every move basically.

we waited and waited for eddie to come around again.

still going strong after the 5k portion.

eddie's goal was to run the race in under an hour.

yay! he made his goal
the clock was actually wrong by one minute and 10 seconds
his finish time was 57:56

good job eddie!!

checking his per mile stats...

 the back of emi's poster.
she has now added arms and legs to her smiley faces
just a few stats: eddie came in 141 out of 341
and was 96/143 men
for his age group, not so good :) 28/38
but considering he was "late" behind all the 5k walkers
and it was his first race, i think he did awesome!!
the fastest 10k, was 35:05!

weekly update {26}

i totally jinked myself last week
talking about how good emi was napping
too bad this week she only took one nap
she got smart, she would wait until i fell asleep
because i had been laying down with her
so once i was asleep, she would go into her room and play
sneaky little thing!

i finally did something i pinned on pinterest
emi loved it, and we have since bought
the huge bag of baking soda from costco
so she can do this over and over.

it's been so hot here the last week
and it's suppose to be even warmer this coming week.
i tried to do a whole day without tv
most of the day we did activities inside
but eventually emi wanted to go outside
so we found some shade and blew some bubbles.

emi the little rascal.
that is her i'm the boss around here face
she's been going to bed late, without a nap
and then once in bed, she says: i can't go to sleep
so one night eddie let her come out and rest on him.
such a softy, and she knows it.
i usually tell her to close her eyes and be quite.

the next morning, we moved all our baby stuff.
emi was so excited to help move things for her baby
eddie was not excited to use his day off moving stuff
i'm happy to start organizing things.
he is just going to be in the corner of the office
which is going to work out just fine.

emi is seriously so funny
this was even before the fireworks started.
we had this genius idea to park across the street from the park
on the other side of the freeway...
we were so smart, cause tons of other people had the same idea
so we drove closer and found a grassy area.
last year we parked at the park and it look like an hour
to just get out of the parking lot

so this year we wanted to avoid traffic
luckily it was windy and emi was ready to go
basically halfway through the fireworks show
as we were driving home, we realized we could see the show from our house.

emi loves to go to the pet store
first we look at her hamster, she wants to take it home
then we see if any dogs are getting haircuts
then we make our way over to the cats
and she could care less about the fish.

oh emi and her books
her favorite story right now is: going to the doctor
brother and sister bear are going for a check up
but papa bear, who never gets sick
sneezes big ah-cooo's! and emi thinks it's hilarious
she can even read the whole story since she has it memorized

i think we had ice cream almost everyday this week.
eddie got a certificate from running his race for a free cone.
i was also super sick this day. i came down with a head cold.
summer colds are the worst, especially when you can't take much.
but ice cream definitely made me feel better :)

emi loves cailou.
i think she relates to him and finds the show so funny
everyday emi picks out her outfits
and she asks me every time: does these match?
i thought it was funny when she chose an all purple outfit
she explained to me they did indeed match
the were both purple, silly girl.

we chat with eddie's parents about once a week
emi has become more and more wiggly
and sometimes a little shy
which is an awful combination because she loves talking to them
but once we are actually chatting, she never holds still
drives me crazy!
emi loves books, and sat still while momo read her a few classic stories
she also sang a few songs for momo and poppy too.
i need to record on video her songs
they are hilarious!
her favorites: slippery fish, baba black sheep and where is thumbkin

weekly update {25}

another week has come and gone.
i like doing this week by week, makes me blog about the little things

i have been trying for months to get emi to wear this jean jumper
she has refused and refused! because it doesn't twirl like a dress.
well i finally got her to wear it
except she wouldn't wear a shirt with it, i think that was last friday
then on saturday she wanted to wear it
but i explained she can only wear it with a shirt
well, then she wanted to wear it to church last week
then this was monday...with a pajama top.
i tried talking her into taking it off to take a nap
as it slides up, but no....she refused.
after monday i had to hide it :)

emi had her last week of school.
on one hand i am glad i have no where to go
no real reason to even get ready for the day
but on the other hand, i enjoyed my hour and a half break
in which i usually did nothing, but walk around a store
but sometimes i was productive.
amazing how quickly you can get things done when your alone.

emi is full on addicted to this pre-k game
the other night she had to play for a little bit before bed
she really has no clue on time
so i say 3 minutes...cause she is 3 and everything is based around the #3
but really it could all be less than 2 minutes
she doesn't know the difference.
and my phone has this weird spot, it's not a spot on the wall
and i can't seem to clean it off.

emi had her first ice cream truck ice cream
gma came to her last day/park school day
and as we were leaving an ice cream 'van' was there.
emi chose a cotton candy flavored popcicle.

while we were at my parents i noticed a picture emi drew
i remember her giving it to gma to give to gpa
but i never saw what it was.
she has ventured out to drawing beards
which is funny cause my dad doesn't have one.
so i'm not quite sure where she got the idea from
cute none the less.

on friday night we went out to load up on carbs.
as eddie ran his first 10k saturday morning.
but that deserves a post of it's own (next on my agenda)

we of course went swimming to cool off.
emi loves to go swimming and never wants to get out
yet won't go near a splash pad, like at the park
the thought of even putting on a bathing suit
hasn't been worth actually going swimming
it's tight on my stomach when pulling it up
and my swim shorts i like to wear don't button anymore
so i have been sitting out in the shade lately.

emi loves quality time with eddie
and why does she look so big in this picture?!?
eddie works out in the morning during the week
emi often runs out to the living room to find him
checks out the window for his car
before she even comes to me in the morning.
and on weekends when he is home in the morning
she wakes him up and gets in bed on his side
poor guy never gets to sleep in.

emi all ready for church
momo and poppy bought this outfit for emi
almost 3 years ago i think , she was just a few months old
she finally fits into it!
weird to think this is one of the last outfits we have
that have been pre-bought...long before she even wears this size
i just recently have actually had to start buying clothes for her.
